Split rent and bills with flatmates
Rent, groceries, Wi-Fi, the cook. Here is how to split a flat's costs fairly, keep track as they happen, and keep your own budget right.
1. Agree the split before anyone picks a room
If the rooms are the same, split the rent evenly. If they are not, split the shared space equally and the bedrooms by size. The free rent split calculator does this for you, with extras like an attached bathroom or a balcony.
2. Set up the flat once
Start a Crew for the flat and invite everyone with a code. Add the rent as a recurring expense, split evenly, by shares, or by the exact amounts you agreed, and it adds itself every month.
3. Split everyday bills as they happen
Whoever pays for groceries, electricity or the cleaner adds it to the Crew in a few seconds. Everyone sees it, and the balance of who owes whom stays up to date.
4. Settle up
Your Crew settles in the fewest payments or person by person, whichever you prefer. Add your UPI ID, or your Venmo or Zelle, and flatmates can pay you back in a tap.
Your budget sees only your share
If you paid the whole electricity bill, your budget should not say you spent all of it. In Cuzo only your share counts, whoever paid. That is the difference between a splitting app and a budgeting app that splits bills.

Questions
How do I split rent when the rooms are different sizes?
Split the shared space equally and the bedrooms by size. The free rent split calculator at cuzo.app/tools/rent-split works it out, with extras like an attached bathroom. Then add the rent to your Crew split by exact amounts or by shares.
Do my flatmates need to pay to use Cuzo?
No. Crews are free on every plan. Your flatmates need a free Cuzo account to join your Crew.
Can rent be added automatically every month?
Yes. Add the rent once as a recurring expense in your Crew, and it is added on the day it is due each month.
How do flatmates pay each other back?
Add your UPI ID, or your Venmo or Zelle, to Cuzo. Your Crew sees what they owe you and can pay you back in a tap, then mark it paid.
Does the rent I split show in my own budget?
Yes, your share of it. Whoever paid, only your share of each Crew expense counts in your budget.
